brea list.

soko - soko not sokute i love this album. it’s simplistic and adorable. soko is an amazing french singer who is in her early twenties. and i think this song is incredibly cute and a little scary at the same time. hard to pull off. and the simple one-take video is amazing.

when you are engulfed in flames by david sedaris - i’m a huge sedaris fan and while i don’t think this is the book you should start with when entering the sedaris world (that would be me talk pretty one day in my humble opinion), it’s still very good for all the die-hard fans of his work. he’s infinitely funny and clever in the oddest ways possible. here’s a link to npr’s page of sedaris reading some excerpts from books or short stories. the santaland diaries is one of my all-time favorites.

channel zero by brian wood - published back in 2000 but i only recently read it. a comic set in a world where there is no freedom of speech, it follows Jennie 2.5, a freedom fighter. i really loved the art and the message.

channel zero cover

i’m a cyborg but that’s ok - a park chan-wook film (probably best known for old boy), this south korean film manages to be both cute and weird at the same time.chuck kim, one of the writers for heroes, suggested it to me and i just got around to watching it this week. (thanks chuck!) one of the only movies i’ve seen that combines a love story, a mental institution, dentures as a central plot point, and robots.

I find everything on this list totally bawesome. Nicely done.

Hi, Brea! Awesome list. Just want to say that I think you’ve been amazing and brilliant on Heroes so far, and I’m really looking forward to the next episode (can’t wait to see you with the Haitian!) Keep up the great work, you’re my favorite villain so far (but Daphne is more someone fighting for survival, in my opinion, than an all - out villain which I think is awesome as I would love to see you as a regular and if you’re a true, true, head - chopping Villain like Sylar, it would be hard to redeem him) and I’m loving the interaction you and Masi and James have going.

Me Talk Pretty One Day is DEFINITELY the place to start for Sedaris. I’d suggest going a step further and getting the audio book. Normally, I’m a real, physical book person, but Sedaris does the narration and it just adds to the book.

I have this vague memory of sitting on a plane to China or New Zealand (some ridiculously long flight) and laughing in my seat enough to get weird looks from the couple sitting next to me.

I missed this one, will have to check it out.

I have to agree about Me Talk Pretty One Day. That’s what got me into Sedaris, and I’m reading Naked right now. Haven’t gotten around to his latest yet, though.

Wow, this song by Soko is pretty good :)
If you get the time, check out the mp3 of it

The music video has a certain gritty quality to it that I like just as much as the better quality mp3.

    p.s. You’re my favorite new hero :P

CHANNEL ZERO is brilliant, a very influential book IMO and probably one of Wood’s strongest works to date (and he’s done a lot since then - I’d recommend checking out DEMO, DMZ and LOCAL if you’re so inclined).

Hi, btw, I’m Shay. Got here from googling you after you were mentioned on Ben Templesmith’s twitter. (Sorry, I do actually watch Heroes but I never caught your name)

Anyway, you seem cool so I might interweb-stalk you from now on, yay.

Awesome, I heard that Soko song once and thought it was fantastic and couldn’t find anything about it. Now I know who it is, thx.
