i’ve been slacking on my los angeles isn’t so bad series.
Machine Project - these people do cool stuff in echo park. i went to a talk about real life super heroes, like vigilantes, but with capes and names. it was cool. i also went to a lecture about sea slugs. sounds boring, but i promise it was amazing. they also had a thing where you go and make your own jam.
here’s a picture of the guy talking about the real life super heroes.

that’s a really terrible photo from my phone but you get the idea.
i like places with people doing creative stuff that’s might be a little out of the ordinary.

Having just spent last week out in LA, I want to put in a plug for another reason it isn’t so bad: Acker & Blacker’s Thrilling Adventure & Supernatural Suspense Hour, a sharply-written satirical old-timey “radio show” performed live, with really talented actors, foley artists, and musicians. I’ve been twice now, and it’s a real hoot. You can see more about it at: http://www.workjuice.net.
Ah man! Can’t believe I missed the real-life super heroes thing. Darn that looks fun.
