dentist

August 19th, 2008

my teeth are hurting. i mean, the dentist is kind of crazy. we grind down our current teeth where they are damaged. then we make fake teeth or part fake teeth. isn’t that kind of barbaric? could someone please find an easier way than filling after filling?

that said, i love my new dentist. yes, i’m lame enough to post about my dentist.

just watched (and conveniently on subject): teeth. if you haven’t seen this, you should. if you are a dude, beware. i will see anything jess weixler does from now on.

here’s a link to the la times blog post about heroes with interviews with me and zach quinto.

that was a pretty fun day for them to come to set. a few more articles should be out soon as well.

currently listening to: tilly and the wall - o. is it true this band has a permanent tap dancer as a member? that’s rad.

another dear apple.

August 14th, 2008

dear apple computers,

why is it that it is so difficult for me to make an mp3 (data) cd on my computer via itunes? i bought this music fair and square from the itunes store and then it won’t convert over to mp3s. or if it will convert, i have to make duplicates of every song, then burn it, then deal with the fact that i’ve made duplicates of all the songs by erasing to them or by listening to each one twice.

(i didn’t really listen to each one twice.)

i enjoy a data cd because i can put more music on it and then the little dashboard in my car displays what i’m listening to. you know that dashboard thing? it’s cool.

furthermore, the songs that don’t to convert to mp3s get listened to far less than those that will because they get additional drive time listening. just an fyi for bands and labels and such.

thanks. your loyal customer who purchases songs legally via the internet,

brea

also - if anyone knows any solutions to my above problems, please fill me in.

second daphne comic.

August 12th, 2008

here’s a link to the second issue of the daphne graphic novel on nbc.com - http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/novels/novels_display.shtml?novel=98

that pretty much gets you up to speed on daphne’s background before the first episode airs (september 22nd).

here’s a non-attractive picture of me on set in a robe because i was cold and with slippers on because my feet hurt. i looked in the mirror and laughed at how non-glamorous working on a television show or film can be. also - my iphone takes terrible photos.

here’s the link!

explains some stuff before you see the first episode (or if you were at comic con and have already seen it).

…also the heroes webisodes are pretty rad too. i just watched them for the first time the other day.

bands i like.

August 8th, 2008

i’m really into the mae shi right now. they’re good for getting excited and maybe making food or painting your room or something. or just dancing.

and i even like the instrumental track that falls into the middle of their new album that’s 11 minutes long. it’s hard to imagine any record label agreeing to that.

here’s a video of theirs.

other quick reviews.

css: donkey - not as good as some of their other stuff. but worth a listen. it seems a little bit rushed - like they were waiting to get it done and just recorded it.

she & him: volume one - why haven’t i heard of this band earlier? as much as i like 60s girl bands, you’d think i’d have been all over this one (although it’s more 50s). finally girls my age who love to wear vintage dresses start playing vintage music.

lemuria: gets better - reminds me of something i would have listened to about 10 years ago and for that reason, i keep spinning it. overall, i have to be in the mood for it.

lykke li: little bit ep - good things come in small four-song packages. although i feel like there is something i’m not quite getting here.

some comic updates

August 7th, 2008

as promised, a few reviews of some stuff i got at comic con. this is just the beginning.

lava punch: first launch - a compilation of comics from different artists. a mixtape of comics if you will. i liked some of the comics in this, but not all. it’s a fun little read. and there is a comic about a girl who has a conjoined twin who has to be removed and then returns from the dead to kill the people she loves. and how can you turn that down?

serenity: those left behind (dark horse) -  the comic. i’m usually not one for a comic post-television show or post-movie, but i was such a big serenity fan that i decided to give it a chance. i forgot some of the characters so i was a little confused, but overall, a good continuation. apparently the screen-to-comic works in the whedon world (ala buffy the vampire slayer - which has turned out to be a brilliant series).

hack/slash: first cut (devil’s due publishing) - a girl who escapes a horror movie-type situation to turn around and hunt serial killers, monsters, slashers, etc. i had never read this but i’m now a huge fan. a great premise. i can’t wait to read the rest of them.

i’m not too familiar with devil’s due as a publishing company. i liked the first issue of rest. so any input people have on the subject would be cool.
