gone to texas.

Saturday, August 30th, 2008

it’s been a busy week so sorry for the few posts. i’m heading to texas tomorrow so don’t expect any major posts until after that. in the mean time, you can always follow me on twitter while i’m in east texas. i’ll try to put more pics on there than normal to make things interesting.

i have big plans to drink as much iced tea as possible.

i’ll leave you with a cool website i like (thanks to partyends.com) - they shoot music, don’t they - a site out of austria that features bands playing in kind of crazy places. like for example, a great texas musician, john congleton from the paper chase playing in a bathroom. kinda cool.

this is definitely my new favorite website. and i’m upset that i didn’t think of it first.

daveydanceblog.com

this one is my favorite so far. because it starts with that lady taking a photo in front of a building before he starts dancing. i honestly can’t believe no one sent me this site earlier.

los angeles isn’t so bad #3

Wednesday, August 20th, 2008

i’ve been slacking on my los angeles isn’t so bad series.

Machine Project - these people do cool stuff in echo park. i went to a talk about real life super heroes, like vigilantes, but with capes and names. it was cool. i also went to a lecture about sea slugs. sounds boring, but i promise it was amazing. they also had a thing where you go and make your own jam.

here’s a picture of the guy talking about the real life super heroes.

machine project

that’s a really terrible photo from my phone but you get the idea.

i like places with people doing creative stuff that’s might be a little out of the ordinary.

dentist

my teeth are hurting. i mean, the dentist is kind of crazy. we grind down our current teeth where they are damaged. then we make fake teeth or part fake teeth. isn’t that kind of barbaric? could someone please find an easier way than filling after filling?

that said, i love my new dentist. yes, i’m lame enough to post about my dentist.

just watched (and conveniently on subject): teeth. if you haven’t seen this, you should. if you are a dude, beware. i will see anything jess weixler does from now on.

another dear apple.

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

dear apple computers,

why is it that it is so difficult for me to make an mp3 (data) cd on my computer via itunes? i bought this music fair and square from the itunes store and then it won’t convert over to mp3s. or if it will convert, i have to make duplicates of every song, then burn it, then deal with the fact that i’ve made duplicates of all the songs by erasing to them or by listening to each one twice.

(i didn’t really listen to each one twice.)

i enjoy a data cd because i can put more music on it and then the little dashboard in my car displays what i’m listening to. you know that dashboard thing? it’s cool.

furthermore, the songs that don’t to convert to mp3s get listened to far less than those that will because they get additional drive time listening. just an fyi for bands and labels and such.

thanks. your loyal customer who purchases songs legally via the internet,

brea

also - if anyone knows any solutions to my above problems, please fill me in.

bands i like.

Friday, August 8th, 2008

i’m really into the mae shi right now. they’re good for getting excited and maybe making food or painting your room or something. or just dancing.

and i even like the instrumental track that falls into the middle of their new album that’s 11 minutes long. it’s hard to imagine any record label agreeing to that.

here’s a video of theirs.

other quick reviews.

css: donkey - not as good as some of their other stuff. but worth a listen. it seems a little bit rushed - like they were waiting to get it done and just recorded it.

she & him: volume one - why haven’t i heard of this band earlier? as much as i like 60s girl bands, you’d think i’d have been all over this one (although it’s more 50s). finally girls my age who love to wear vintage dresses start playing vintage music.

lemuria: gets better - reminds me of something i would have listened to about 10 years ago and for that reason, i keep spinning it. overall, i have to be in the mood for it.

lykke li: little bit ep - good things come in small four-song packages. although i feel like there is something i’m not quite getting here.

adrian did this and i think it’s pretty awesome…a good sneak peak at what’s to come in the next season.

it’s all the rage

currently listening to: the new girl talk album. it’s pretty insanely good. to be honest, i thought i was over anything that resembled a mash-up but it turns out, i’m not. plus, this is not your typical song-over-another-song - it’s much more interesting. just when you think, i may skip forward, he plays a clip of the jackson 5. and y’all know how i feel about the jackson 5.

just saw: Hellboy 2. for some reason, i’ve only seen parts of Hellboy on television but now i feel like i should go back and watch it for real. this was amazing. seemed to be cut a little short in parts but the characters alone were worth watching. and selma blair, i love you.

currently reading: about writing by samuel delany. a suggestion from neil gaiman’s blog. it’s a good non-fiction, informative book for those interested in writing. plus this guy wrote it:

samuel delany

and he looks like a wizard so i trust anything he says.

i have cool friends

i keep forgetting to post a link to chioke’s page so i’m devoting a whole post to it.

this is a link to chioke nassor’s website - chiokenassor.com he writes funny blogs, makes good movies (”the gina gershon sex tape” is bomb) and he is a general funny guy. he also gets mad at me when i don’t call him back. but not too mad, just peeved.

i also use his business card as a bookmark so every time i read, i think of him.
