Laura here – please please please take a moment out of your day to watch this incredible video that actress Cathy Baron generously created for our cause. She teamed up with some of her coolest GIRL friends to get their thoughts about why girls rock!

Remember this drive ends THURSDAY so please pass this link along to your friends. We have chosen a very small charity with a low budget and this money will make an enormous impact on the girls they serve. Here’s a comment that a Girls Rock Camp Mom Robyn left on this blog!
As the mother of a girl who participated in Girls Rock Camp Austin last summer, I can say that even without instruments, the girls were better than that!! (Funny, funny video!)
Seriously, I believe a full 50% of the girls served by this camp last summer were on scholarship. This is SUCH a great cause for our girls. My daughter, an aspiring bass player, left camp pumped up and ready to rock. The camp gave her an amazing sense of confidence in her ability to make music, but more than that, it reinforced the idea that a strong, independent female can stand up for herself in any situation. I especially loved that the brothers and dads weren’t even allowed to drag around the equipment. The girls do it all for themselves. In addition, an unbelievably talented pool of local female musicians donate their time to teach the girls and coach their bands. It’s really a remarkable program.
Thanks to everyone who has donated and thanks to Brea and her team for their support!

Laura here with some Charity Smackdown updates!
First up this funny video from loyal and awesome fan @jazmoore!

Second GirlGamer.com is featuring us on their homepage! Thanks GirlGamer! AND GirlGamer founder Mike Prasad is offering a ONE HOUR CONSULT to anyone who donates more than $100 to our team! I know Mike and he is a BRILLIANT entrepreneur and branding guru, this is a VERY valuable prize.
Further stepping up the awesomeness is Brandon Wirtz who is offering SEO consulting to anyone who donates at least $300. Thank you Brandon!
Remember we are challenging you to create your own video/creative piece for us to post on Brea’s blog and we only have until THIS THURSDAY to put the smackdown on the other teams.
Last but not least . . . here’s a little taste of what your money is going towards: GIRLS WHO ROCK!

Just spicing up this entry with a photo – this is my all time favorite pic of Brea and I, taken three years ago in Santa Monica. She genuinely had no idea I was back there, haha!
Laura here with an update on the Charity Smackdown. I’m pleased to report that as of this writing we are #3 which is AWESOME but we are aiming for number one! So many of you have donated just $5 or $10 which is so cool to see, it shows that you don’t have to have a ton of cash to make a difference!
So here is your challenge: make a video, audio, picture, or whatever you like that’s inspired by the Girls Rock Camp Austin mission. Here is their mission:
Girls Rock Camp Austin is a nonprofit dedicated to empowering girls and women of all backgrounds and abilities through musical education and performance.
The video that the cast of Halloween 2 made posted below is an example. Get creative, it can be anything and everything you can think of! Post your creation to your blog, twitter account, tumblr or whatever you like along with a link to RockWithBrea.com encouraging donations. This will be a great way to spread the word about the smackdown.
And the bonus is that we’ll be posting the cool submissions we get to this very blog, along with any other blogs that want to play along. Just send an email to rockwithbrea@gmail.com to make sure we see your submission. (Hint: this is a great way to get exposure on a very high-traffic blog and do some good at the same time.)
Remember we only have until March 26th to raise money so get going! Brea and I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
if you haven’t heard, laura (@lkr), amber naslund, and sloan berrent and i are in the charity smackdown during sxsw! here’s another video encouraging you to give to Girls Rock Camp Austin.
thanks to scout taylor-compton, andy 6, and angela trimbur for helping to make it.
scout made this awesome video of some people talking about halloween 2 (including me), a tour of my character’s apartment, and asking everyone what they would take to a desert island.

want to know a little more about girls rock camp austin and why you should give? here’s laura and i just having a regular, non-planned conversation all about.
Laura here, I’ll be writing in this blog occasionally to update you on the Charity Smackdown while Brea is busy filming Halloween 2.
Charity Smackdown is a new fundraising event that combines social media “stars” like me and REAL stars like Brea! Each team picks a charity and the goal is to beat out the other teams by raising the most money for your chosen charity.
Brea and I have chosen a very cool organization as our benefactor called Girls Rock Camp Austin. We wanted to pick a local charity where the money we raise can go really far, and for an event tied to South By Southwest we thought it was only appropriate to pick one based in Austin and related to Rock & Roll! Austin is also where Brea and I met at the University of Texas and lived for years. GRCA’s programs take place in Austin but they are also a part of the Girls Rock Camp Alliance so you’ll be helping to support rock camps around the world!
The contest has not officially started yet, but please go ahead and enter your email on the right side of the page here to be updated as the smackdown progresses.
I am so excited to get YOU involved in this fun and worthy cause! We are going to be rolling out some contests and videos to make sure everybody pitches in to DOMINATE the smackdown for Team Brea! Keep checking back here for more soon.
