brea list.
Monday, February 23rd, 2009this is the brea list – horror edition. i’ve filled my life with horror-themed everything lately in prep for shooting Halloween 2 (next week).
behind the mask: the rise of leslie vernon -
what you can’t exactly tell from this preview is that the first 2/3 of the movie is strictly a documentary crew following the killer leslie vernon around and it’s pretty hilarious. it deconstructs the whole idea of a slasher killer. and then it turns into a pretty great horror movie. it’s available on netflix instant right now, too.
pretty/scary – i’ve been loving this website. it’s about women in horror – on all sides – writing, directing, acting, etc. it’s one of those websites you can tell is done for the love of the genre.
men, women, and chainsaws by carol j. clover -

this is not exactly an afternoon read. it’s a pretty intensive, academic look at the horror genre – everything from examining the location of a slasher film to the theory of the final girl. it’s not super easy to find but i got it from my library.
locke & key written by joe hill illustrated by gabriel rodriguez -

ghosts, killers and beautiful art all in the same place. this graphic novel will scare you and make you wish all horror movies came in the hand-held form. i highly recommend it. it’s on idw. and you can follow joe hill on twitter. also – here’s a video preview of the book.
