brea list.

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

this is the brea list – horror edition. i’ve filled my life with horror-themed everything lately in prep for shooting Halloween 2 (next week).

behind the mask: the rise of leslie vernon -

what you can’t exactly tell from this preview is that the first 2/3 of the movie is strictly a documentary crew following the killer leslie vernon around and it’s pretty hilarious. it deconstructs the whole idea of a slasher killer. and then it turns into a pretty great horror movie. it’s available on netflix instant right now, too.

pretty/scary – i’ve been loving this website. it’s about women in horror – on all sides – writing, directing, acting, etc. it’s one of those websites you can tell is done for the love of the genre.

men, women, and chainsaws by carol j. clover -

men, women, and chainsaws

this is not exactly an afternoon read. it’s a pretty intensive, academic look at the horror genre – everything from examining the location of a slasher film to the theory of the final girl. it’s not super easy to find but i got it from my library.

locke & key written by joe hill illustrated by gabriel rodriguez -

ghosts, killers and beautiful art all in the same place. this graphic novel will scare you and make you wish all horror movies came in the hand-held form. i highly recommend it. it’s on idw. and you can follow joe hill on twitter. also – here’s a video preview of the book.

love stories.

bookspotcentral asked me to write about my favorite love story in 20th century literature. it’s for their monthly feature called Synergy.

it was a hard question but you can see my answer here.

halloween 2.

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

you may have heard on other sites that i’ll be in Rob Zombie’s Halloween 2 and i’m confirming it here.

it’s also confirmed on Rob Zombie’s blog.

i’m very excited.

for all of the millions of people who have asked about my character on heroes, just keep watching.

runaway teen.

sometimes when my friend chioke is in town, he says, “i’m coming over and we’re making a short film” and i say okay. and then, this happens.

you can see his website and all of the trouble he’s causing at chiokenassor.com.

brea list.

this is a little shorter than some of my brea lists, but hey – it includes three videos. all of them awesome.

rootclip – i’ve already posted about this but i think i need to emphasize how awesome it is. here’s how it works – they make the first chapter, then people submit for the next chapter using the same characters, theme, etc. pretty cool. i’m actually a judge for the UTK spring project one and it’s been very fun so far. all the students are super talented. i really want to encourage you to go and watch them (they’re all short) and vote for your very favorite. and then, make your own! here’s the first part (made by rootclip) and everyone else has to continue the story.

(sorry this video is giant. not sure how to fix that. but go watch it on their site and it works wonderfully.)

black balloon – i just saw this movie at the portland international film festival. it was so amazing. i love toni colette. and apparently, i love australian films. here’s the preview – so good…

the bird and the bee: ray guns are not just the future – i love this freakin’ album. LA-based band that puts me a good mood.

midnight movie.

Friday, February 6th, 2009

a while back i did a movie called, Midnight Movie, and someone recently sent me a compilation of clips someone else made just of my scenes. thought i’d post it for you to enjoy since it didn’t hit too many theaters. although you can rent it on netflix.

thanks to the breagrantfans youtube group for making this! this is actually the first i’ve seen of it.

interview with greg and me in london.

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

this is old but i thought i’d post it anyway since i’d never seen it. we had just got off a 15 hour flight and were exhausted. thanks @WeirdMeta for this link.

if you’re curious with what’s up with greg at this moment, check out getyowza.com. that’s his idea/product thing.

brea list.

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

i have to start this brea list by confessing a stupid mistake. a few weeks ago i did an editor’s picks with smashingdarling.com and i accidentally called this very cool item -

- earrings. they are in fact shoe clips and i feel the need to clarify. fancy footwork makes super cool shoe-related items. i hope you will all forgive me and go check out all the cool stuff over at fancy footwork.

juliette commagere – queens die proudly – i’m such a fan of this album, i’m posting it without a video (which normally i don’t do because i like at least one video per post). but seriously – you will need no visual. it’s the exact kind of thing you want to be playing when you are on the computer and looking to be inspired. in fact, i’m listening to it right now. it is simply my favorite album i’ve bought so far this year. (also – she used to be in the band hello stranger – who i never listened to but some of you might have.)

here’s what she looks like:

(imagine it moving)

year of astronomy 2009 – you didn’t know it was the year of astronomy, did you? well, neither did i until i learned it at a panel hosted by phil plait of badastronomy.com (the only science blog i read on a regular basis). so happy year of astronomy everyone! if anyone of you is involved in any way with this, please twitter me or email me so i can publicize more.

girl factory by jim krusoe – this was truly a bizarre book. i have nothing in common with anyone in the book but i related to it. about a man who works in a yogurt shop who finds a crazy, random secret in the basement. i don’t want to give too much away but i’d check it out from the library if you get a chance.
