earthquake!

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

yes, there was an earthquake this morning. i thought it was a big truck because my windows were rattling. my dog didn’t notice. but it was kind of scary.

comic con was very fun. i will update soon with photos and some comic reviews of new stuff i bought!

a few people have asked and the answer is no. i won’t be at comic con this year. but everyone have fun and please don’t rub it in my face too much…

new photos!

new photos on the gallery page - all done by the fabulous timothi jane graham. her website is timothiphoto.com.

have yet to see dark knight but wall-e was pretty awesome. any movie that can hold my attention span without actual talking for the first half gets five stars from me.

stupid technology.

Friday, July 18th, 2008

my phone and computer simultaneously died last night. no contacts, no back ups because they were backed up on my computer, no music, no photos, all gone. my phone is working (on a limited basis).

dear apple, i’m really not liking you and your products’ insistence on breaking on me at least once a year and around the time i’m going to bed. love, brea.

breaking things as usual

Wednesday, July 16th, 2008

so, i recently broke my blog. (sorry if you tried to comment on anything) but thankfully, the amazing laura at roeder studies fixed my dumb mistake.

today is zane’s birthday! happy birthday zane!

i’m really excited about: the new mirah album

new mirah album

it’s all the rage

Sunday, July 13th, 2008

currently listening to: the new girl talk album. it’s pretty insanely good. to be honest, i thought i was over anything that resembled a mash-up but it turns out, i’m not. plus, this is not your typical song-over-another-song - it’s much more interesting. just when you think, i may skip forward, he plays a clip of the jackson 5. and y’all know how i feel about the jackson 5.

just saw: Hellboy 2. for some reason, i’ve only seen parts of Hellboy on television but now i feel like i should go back and watch it for real. this was amazing. seemed to be cut a little short in parts but the characters alone were worth watching. and selma blair, i love you.

currently reading: about writing by samuel delany. a suggestion from neil gaiman’s blog. it’s a good non-fiction, informative book for those interested in writing. plus this guy wrote it:

samuel delany

and he looks like a wizard so i trust anything he says.

los angeles isn’t so bad #2

Saturday, July 12th, 2008

trying to keep a weekly praise for los angeles on here.

#2 reason why los angeles isn’t so bad.

farmer’s markets. (and NOT the one by the grove) correct me if i’m wrong, but isn’t southern california the only place in the united states with a year-round farmer’s market? i know there wasn’t one in texas, but i haven’t lived everywhere. not only that but there is at least one a few miles from my house every day of the week.

carrots, potatoes, brussel sprouts and broccoli are all in season right now

i know people say brussel sprouts are gross but that is untrue. if you cut them in half and coat them in olive oil, salt and pepper, then throw them in the oven on broil for 10 minutes or so depending on how crispy you like them - they are virtually like french fries. but better for you. (i also add more salt at the end to make them a little bad for me)

oh and if you do one of those online carbon footprint tests, you score way higher if you buy all local produce. especially if it’s organic.

sorry if this blog was boring for those who don’t care about vegetables.

high school nostalgia.

Friday, July 11th, 2008

my brother recently did a radio show of influential high school songs. so i made a list of my own. and i stole one of his - although he admitted to stealing my tape of the said band in high school - so i think it’s fair. this is a preliminary and slightly embarrassing list. i might think of more later. please feel free to add your own. particularly if they are more embarrassing than mine.

1. the descendants - bikeage

2. heavens to betsy - stay away

3. the get up kids - don’t hate me

4. nofx - the brews

5. propagandhi - i was a pre-teen mccarthyist

6. rainer maria - feeling neglected

7. the donnas - skintight

8. discount - half fiction

9. sarge - fast girls

10. minor threat - out of step
